"Winter tends to be the season where we want to be cozy and warm inside our houses, so there’s more time to focus on ourselves and create better routines," -Dr. Zaidman, Family Dentist.

It’s beginning to look a lot like the hectic holiday season. Making it a good time to chat with Rockland County Native and fellow parent, Dr. Jessica Zaidman of JZ Family Dental in Nanuet, NY about helping our kids build healthy habits before, during and after the holiday season.

Dr. Zaidman was kind enough to make time to be a great source for fantastic tips about using the slower pace of winter to our advantage. After serving families in our community for over a decade, she has some wonderful insights into how we can turn the chilly months into an opportunity for wellness.

Here are her unique opportunities for families to prioritize wellness—especially when it comes to dental health and overall well-being.

1. Make Mealtime a Healthy, Family Event

Dr. Zaidman encourages families to use this time of year to explore healthier meal options together. "We have more time to research recipes and spend time preparing them as a family," she explains. Sharing the process of planning, cooking, and enjoying meals together not only promotes healthier eating but also strengthens family bonds.

If you try this, share a post and tell us about it on Instagram and Facebook using #MacaroniKIDnanuet. Be sure to tag JZ Family Dental on Facebook and @jzfamilydental on Instagram too.

2. Prioritize Family Dental Routines

The slower pace of winter provides an excellent opportunity to reinforce good dental habits. "We’re a little less rushed getting out of the house when there’s no school, so it allows us to spend that recommended two minutes brushing our teeth in the morning and before bed," Dr. Zaidman advises.

3. Try Family New Year’s Resolutions

The start of a new year is a natural time to establish better routines and this goes for the whole family. "If the holidays cause us to take a break from our schedules, we can jump right back in on January 1st with healthier habits," Dr. Zaidman shares.

Did you think resolutions were dead? Tell us if you’re still committing and keeping yours on the Macaroni KID Facebook Page.

4. Make Time for Family Dental Visits

Scheduling family visits to the dental office for routine checkups is another way to keep kids on track during the winter. "One of the common challenges families face is finding the time to schedule those routine dental visits for children," Dr. Zaidman notes. "There are so many breaks from school during the winter months to allow you to see your dentist. When students and teachers are off, dental offices are open!"

If you’re looking for a family or cosmetic dentist, call Dr. Zaidman at 845-623-8881 or visit JZ Family Dental online to schedule an appointment.

5. Give the Gift of a Healthy Smile

If you’re still looking for stocking stuffers, Dr. Zaidman suggests an electric toothbrush with a timer to give families one less thing to think about each day. Shop local in Nanuet and #InvestInOrangetown at JZ Family Dental where you can purchase an electric toothbrush with your Medical Flex Spending Account. Why not use your saved up end-of-the-year funds on wellness gifts for your loved ones this year?

"The built-in two-minute timer ensures your children will keep brushing, plus the advanced digital features will make them think they just received a new electronic device!" Stop by to pick some up and mention Macaroni KID for a free gift! When you do, snap your smile and share a post on Facebook or Instagram, tagging @jzfamilydental and using #InvestInOrangetown.
